Gov’t Injects 20 Billion in Kichwamba, Kigumba Institutes to Train Ugandans in Oil and Gas

The Ministry of Education and Sports has contracted Sarick Construction Limited and Ambitious Construction Company to deliver infrastructure worth 20 billion shillings for Uganda Technical College Kichwamba and Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba.

The funds will support civil works for training equipment.

The project is to support skilling Ugandans in oil and gas which is in fulfillment of the contract Government made with the oil companies that when oil exploration begins, Ugandans should be able to be given priority in employment.

The project is therefore aimed at turning the institutions into centers of excellence in oil and gas.

While signing the contract with contractors at the Education Ministry headquarters in Kampala, the Ministry Permanent Secretary Alex Kakooza called on contractors to deliver good quality work.

“We want to request that you people who have got these contracts, you must do the best to make sure that we are not disappointed. We are behind schedule because these contracts should have been signed some one or two years back but we delayed for one reason or another and we are running out of time,” said Kakooza.

The investment comes through the Albertine Regional Sustainable Development Project (ARSDP) funded by the World Bank.

The ARSDP has supported the institutions to develop a new internationally recognized competency-based curriculum for training as well as retooling instructors.
