Gov’t Halts Issuance of Driving Permits as New Company Prepares To Takeover

The Ministry of Works and Transport has temporarily closed all its regional driving permits issuance offices to allow the new service provider remodel the facilities in preparation for takeover.

The new service provider, MESSRS Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) is taking over from MESSRS Face Technologies Limited.

According to the statement issued by Works and Transport Ministry Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa, the issuance of driving permits will in the meantime only be done at Face Technologies Limited main facility in Kyambogo but this will also be closed from 1st to 7th December 2020.

“The Ministry of Works and Transport informs the general public that all its regional driving permits issuance offices at Jinja, Mbale, Gulu, Arua, Fort Portal and Mbarara will be closed to the public with effect from 1st December 2020 until further notice to allow the incoming service provider MESSRS Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) to remodel the facilities in preparation for takeover,” said Bageya.

“In the meantime, the issuance of driving permits will only be done at the main facility in Kyambogo, Kampala. However, this facility will also be temporarily closed to the public from 1st December 2020 to Monday 7th December 2020 when the services will resume. All the above is part of the transition process from the current service provider MESSRS Face Technologies (PTY) Limited to the incoming service provider MESSRS Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC),” he added.
