Government Urged to Probe Spencon Over Lubigi Channel Funds

Mukono Municipality MP, Hon. Betty Bakireke Nambooze wants parliament to institute proceedings against construction firm Spencon.

“We want parliament to institute a committee to investigate Spencon which was given 2.5 million dollars to build the Lubigi drainage channel. Up to now, they have not built anything”, she implored

With the World Bank demanding accountability, Nambooze says if possible Jennifer Musisi the former Kampala City Council Authority executive director should be asked to account.

“Those who gave us that money are now demanding for accountability. Jennifer Musisi come back and explain what you used money towards drainage construction for”.

The Lubigi Channel was intended to eliminate flooding around Mulago, Bwaise, Kalerwe and Namungoona areas.

It turns out however, that government to this date has not paid off area residents where this drainage channel is supposed to pass.

The project deadline is set for December this year.

KCCA currently needs about $200 million (approximately 750 billion shillings) to undertake the Kampala Drainage Master Plan.
