Government Summoned in Shs 25B Compensation Case by War Victims

Government through the Attorney General has been ordered to file its defense in the case in which 10,835 victims of 1980s NRA war seek compensation arising for the damages and losses they suffered.

According to the summons signed by the Deputy Registrar of High Court civil division on 17th June 2019, the Attorney General is being ordered to file government’s defense within fifteen days upon receiving the summons failure of which the matter will be heard ex parte

In this suit filed through Nyombi and Company Advocates the 10,835 war victims claim they lost a lot of their items which brought this government in power, but = have been ignored despite the fact that most of their colleagues from other regions have been compensated.

The complainants who are residents of Nakasongola, Kiryandongo, Masindi and Kayunga demand compensation of up to 25 billion shillings resulting from damages and loses they suffered during this war

In their plaint they claim that they had delayed to sue government because they had hope that any time thwy would be compensated, but nothing has happened three decades later.

They claim that they filed an intention to sue to the government but it didn’t bare any fruits.

This group is being led by Kitaka John, Galimaka James, Matovu Henry and Byegumye Fred.
