Government Pushes Back On Substandard Relief Food Claims

The government has come out to sternly dismiss claims that have been making rounds on social media that the Covid19 relief food that is being distributed was substandard.

Social media was recently awash with pictures of brown posho and beans packed with stones, with claims that this was the food being handed out by government to people.

Addressing press in Kawempe division on Wednesday Hon Judith Nabakooba the Minster for ICT and Communication said these rumours were being spread by people with a hidden agenda

To prove that the government relief food was safe, the minister carried out a random sampling on bags of posho and beans showing the quality of food they are distributing

Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda who is in charge of the food distribution also travelled with a delegation to Namanve warehouses to inspect the quality of food supplies being distributed to people.

Aponye Uganda Ltd, the suppliers of the relief food said the information on social media platforms was false, defamatory and malicious

In a press statement dated 8th March 2020, these said that their food is processed using the best automated technology which can’t let stones to be packed within.

“The Photoshop pictures don’t depict Aponye products and services. It is intended to misinform you about food being distributed by Government of Uganda and supplied by us.”

These added that during processing of their foods there is no human contact in all stages of production since they use quality management systems and standard operating procedures.
