Government Moves to Crack Down on Travellers Cheating on Covid19 Tests

Government through Ministry of Health has issued new guidelines to be followed by people seeking to take Covid19 tests before traveling out of the country.

Recently according to the ministry, people have been taking advantage of loopholes to take tests free of charge when they are supposed to pay.

“Some travellers have been going to Government testing centres claiming that they are contacts to previously confirmed cases hence tested for free, yet the actual purpose of the test was for travel” said Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa the Director General Health Services

Going forward, the ministry says individuals intending to travel out of Uganda will be required to pay for a COVID-19 test and that their certificates must indicate “TRAVEL” as the intended purpose of test.

Besides, Mwebesa says people who are contacts cannot be allowed to travel before they are quarantined.

Government currently charges Shs 180,000 for anyone who wants to take a voluntary Covid19 test.

Meanwhile all travellers Mwebesa said will be required to have a CovID-19 negative certificate taken within 12hours before as opposed to 72 hours as has been the case.
