Finally, the long awaited fight between Golola Moses and Umar Ssemata has been given a green light; this fight has been in the pipeline for over the past five years.
The two champions will face off in October 13th this year, Promoter Abdul Malik Karisa confirmed.
This development came on Tuesday in a media briefing held at MT Zion Hotel. It was orgainised to thank the stakeholders after the Golola-Kinekenwa fight recently held on Saturday at Freedom City.
On Saturday night, Golola with ease defeated Kikenwa while Umar Ssemata didn’t break any sweat to put down his Kenyan opponent.
When Malik gave Ssemata a chance to reflect on his fight held at Freedom City, the soft spoken champ posed a question to the self-claimed ‘of Uganda’, asking him why he fears a challenge.
In retaliation; Golola with confidence, agreed to face off the Thai-based fighter, a statement which was welcomed with loud cheers from press members who attended the briefing.
“A fighter never fears, but every dog has its day!! I have always wanted to fight him, but Golola is a disease that has no cure, and please Promoter Malik, let me fight this man before June this year,” Golola said loudly.
To stamp in, Promoter Malik agreed to organise the fight however, he slated the brawl on an October 13th, with more details (venue, fight style etc) to be confirmed later.
In his words, Promoter Malik said:
“Both of these guys are Champions, this is actually the biggest fight ever in Uganda and am proud to be part of this.”
It was agreed that the rematch between Golola and Kikenwa will be slated on the same date with Kabaka’s birthday.
Ssemata’s has been involved in 77 fights, winning 44 (with 6 knock outs), and 3 draws.
He is the WBC champion (Muay Thai) and former WKF.
Umar Ssemata vowed to put up a spirited fight, claimed to be a better fighter than Golola:
“Golola is just a local fighter, he has sold in Uganda but I have been abroad and sold this country’s flag all over.
“I have faced off tougher opponents that Golola can’t stand with. Am very young, skillful but dangerous.”
He promised to break Golola’s streak, teaching him kickboxing in the process.
Sponsors Africell, Kwese TV, Samona are expected to return on board for this mouth-watering thriller.
