David Emong received a heroic welcome as he returned to Uganda upon winning a gold medal.
Emong touched base at Entebbe International airport on Thursday afternoon amidst cheers from family members, Uganda Athletics Federation and fans.
The athlete thanked God for enabling him win another a medal on the world stage.
“I’m delighted that I return home with yet another medal. I thank God who enabled me achieve this fete,” he said.
However, Emong indicated this is just the beginning and he embeds hopes of winning more medals.
“It is good that I have won two medals now but that is just the start for me. I want to win more and more, so I will keep working harder,” he added.
Emong won a gold medal in the 1500m T46 on Saturday in the World Para Athletic championship in London, the first ever gold medal for Uganda.
He also won silver at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio which was Uganda’s first medal in the history of the games.
