Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Ismail Watenga has completed his move to South African top flight entity Chippa United Football Club on a 19-month contract, the club has confirmed.
“Uganda national goalkeeper, Ismail Watenga, has officially signed for Chippa United and is available with immediate effect,” read the club statement.
The statement added, “the 25-year-old joins from Sofapaka F.C (Kenya) having signed a 19-month-contract with the club and is already training with the team in Port Elizabeth.”
The lanky shot stopper Watenga has been club-less since partying ways with Kenya Premier League side Sofapaka in January this year over administrative concerns and betting claims surrounding the club.
He has been in South Africa for the last three months and has been training with DSTV Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The former Vipers Sports Club and Burna Football Club (Ethiopia) custodian will serve as a replacement for Veil Mothwa who left the Chilli Boys for another DSTV Premiership side Amazulu.
