Police in Soroti has queried the suitability of Soroti Sports Ground as a venue for such an event as Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat’s campaign launch, citing its location next to an isolation centre that has Covid-19 patients.
According to the statement released by police, “the venue is not suitable for the activity given that there is an adjacent regional hospital that has Covid-19 patients in the hospital compound (tent),” said Assistant Chief of Police Ogwal Maxwell Onep.
Ogwal cited that according to their security intelligence source, the activities slated to take place will cause fatal impact on the patients.
“According to our intelligence source of the likely activities, regulating the crowd and any engagement with them can cause fatal impact on the patients as advised by technical security personnel of the field force unit,” he revealed.
“We have immediately advised them to look for another suitable place to hold the campaign like the mayor’s garden,” Ogwal added.
Meanwhile, FDC’s Amuriat with his entourage are headed for Soroti to launch his presidential campaign.
