Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde through his lawyers has applied to High Court seeking to be released on bail pending hearing of the cases against him.
Tumukunde, who is charged with Treason and unlawful possession of fire arms before City Hall Court, through his lawyers of Nalukoola Wameli and Company advocates presented a number of grounds for court to consider and grant him bail.
In his accompanying affidavit signed by himself yesterday 19th March, Tumukunde stated that he is of advanced age with a presumption of innocence, and that once released he will not interfere with the investigations of the cases against him.
“I am not a flight risk at all and I undertake to abide such terms and conditions as may be set by this Honorable court if released on bail including attending trial to its conclusion,” he said.
Among other grounds is that the charges against him are bailable before High Court; that he has substantial sureties and that he has never breached any terms of police bond or bail before.
The bail application comes shortly after Chief Justice Bart Katureebe suspended appearance of Prisoners before court for a period of 30 days apart from bail applications where only counsels, sureties and the applicant will be allowed in court.
Tumukunde was remanded to Luzira on Monday by City Hall grade one Magistrate Valeria Tumuhimbise.
Prosecution contends that Tumukunde on 5th March 2020 at NBS Television in Kampala district during the morning breeze show made utterances to wit “if I was Rwanda I would wish to support people who want to cause change”
Its further alleged that on 13th March 2020 at Impala Avenue Kololo in Kampala district, he was found in possession of an AK 47 and a Star Pistol without valid fire arm certificates.
