The National Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) Gen Salim Saleh has challenged young UPDF soldiers to set up their own ideology and to follow it until the reach his own age of 60.
Saleh was on Wednesday launching the regional Defence Forces Week at Timuna Secondary school grounds in Kasangombe sub county in Nakaseke district ahead of Tarehe Sita celebrations.
The Defence Forces Week is launched every year one week ahead of Tarehe Sita celebrations which for this year will take place at Butalangu grounds in Nakaseke district on 6th February.
“Our army is 39 years. When I was 39 years, I wrote my own Tarehe Sita statement and I fulfilled it. Write your own Tarehe Sita statement. What is your ideology at 39?” said Saleh to young soldiers.
“Let us renew the ideological clarity of our mission as UPDF. You have performed your primary purpose of securing our borders. You have a secondary purpose which is securing development process,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Kasangombe chairman LC 3 James Makande requested Saleh to give financial assistance to two projects at the sub county.
One he said, is implemented by the youth and deals in hatchery of chicken, and needs 30 million shillings and another one implemented by women dealing in selling of counter books that needs 20 million shillings.
Saleh as a result handed over 13 million shillings to the LC 3 chairman to support the projects.
At the event, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen David Muhoozi applauded the people of Nakaseke for supporting the war that brought NRM Government.
“You gave us your children, food, news about our enemies and bases. We can never thank you enough.”
Muhoozi also said the main objective of the celebrations is how to gain from current peace.
“After bringing peace, so what. What do we do in the next course of struggle to ensure that we deliver prosperity to our people? We went through harsh time, now we have peace. You have a lot of opportunities,” he said.
For the next one week up to 6th February 2020 when Tarehe Sita celebrations will be held, the UPDF Chief political commissar Brig. Henry Matsiko said UPDF will be engaged in various community works in the districts of greater Luweero.
He mentioned some of the projects executed by the army which will benefit the local people in this Defense Forces week.
They include, rehabilitating a classroom block at Buwana primary school, construction of another classroom block at Kikandwa Primary school and completion of a health center ward at Buja health center III in Nakaseke district.
In Luweero district, he said there will be construction a classroom at Garikwoleka Primary school in Bamunanika, construction of classroom at Buyambi primary school and Muronzi primary school in Nakasongla among others.
Meanwhile, on matters health, Brig Matsiko said that in Nakasongla, UPDF doctors will be at Nabiswera Health center III treating people for free.
In Luweero, the doctors from today up to 31st will be at Makulubita health center III, Kamira health center III from 1st to 3rd and Butuntumula health center III ftom 4th to 5th.
Further, on 1st February, the doctors will do fumigation at Kiwambya health center II, Wabusambya health center II on 2nd, Kigege health center III on 3rd and Masulita health center III on 5th.
There will be simultaneous launches across districts of greater Luweero.
Some of the generals that will be involved in tommorow’s launches include, Peter Elweru, Peckos Kuteesa, Charles Otema, Sam Kiwanuka, Charles Byanyima, Leopold Kyanda, Stephen Mugerwa among others.
