The Archbishop of Uganda Rt. Rev Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has expressed interest on behalf of Church of Uganda to partner with government to promoting modernized Agriculture in the country
The Archbishop together with other religious leaders yesterday met with Gen Salim Saleh, the head of the Operation Wealth Creation and officials from Ministry of agriculture and NARO, in Kawanda.
Speaking during the meeting, Kazimba urged government to provide more support to the Church’s ventures in agriculture.
“We had earlier requested for 37 tractors for each Diocese. Government allocated only 10 and so far 2 have been delivered. We request that the remaining 8 are also delivered with the additional 27 so as to cover all the Dioceses,” he said
Kazimba also asked government to provide a milling machine to each Diocese in the country for value addition
On his party, Gen Saleh appreciated the finance discipline within the church structures and promised to support the religious leaders so that they can use the same procedures to have all Ugandans benefit from Government programs ensure that they use the same
“I am very glad to partner with Church of Uganda because you have clear structures and accountability is very easy since everybody in every corner of Uganda is able to get services from the nearest church.”
Meanwhile, General David Muhoozi the Chief of Defense Forces appreciated the religious leaders for sparing time to participate in a cause aimed at uplifting people’s welfare and the country’s economy
Muhoozi said that apart from defending the county’s territorial borders and supporting the civil authorities during disaster and emergencies, the army (UPDF) has a duty of engaging in production in order to contribute to economic development of Uganda.
