Gen Sabiiti Rushes To Lyantonde As Gunmen Shoot 3 Family Members

The Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj. General Sabiiti Muzeeyi has Monday afternoon rushed to Lyantonde district as investigations into the gruesome murder of three family members commence.

On Sunday night at around 9:30pm in Kalilo trading center, Kalilo Sub county, Lyantonde district gunmen raided a home and shot two people dead and later went to another home and also killed a relative.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Francis Bagabo said to be in his 60s, his wife a one Kellen Nakato, 38, who is also commonly referred to as Mulongo and Leokadia Baliwahenki.

Police in a statement said the three were shot from their homes by yet to be identified persons, though, preliminary  investigations indicate that two people;  sons to the deceased are suspected to have participated in the murder.

The two suspects have been identified as Nathan Mwebaza an army deserter and Ben Kakuru who is said to be a UPDF soldier.

“Deputy IGP Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeeyi led a team of investigators to the crime scene as part of operations to apprehend the suspects,” reads part of the statement.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Lyantonde health centre IV for postmortem.

“We appeal to the public to provide any relevant information on the suspects on 0707114114, or to any contacts of police in Greater Masaka region or, to the local leaders,” said police.

Area residents said suspects who are sons of Mr Rwabogo have been having misunderstandings with their father over their stepmother which may have prompted them to kill her.

Leokadia Baliwahenki, who is said to be an in law to Mr Rwabogo was gunned down from his residence which is a few kilo meters away from the couple’s house.

Residents said one of the suspects identified as Mwebaze has been on a wanted list after he was linked to a murder of three other family members in the same district.
