The daughter of detained former South Sudan Army Chief of Staff, Gen. Paul Malong has died in a school fire in Nairobi.
Fire gutted a dormitory at Moi Girls School in the Kenyan Capital on Saturday, killing eight students and injuring several others.
According to family sources, Alakiir Malong, who was residing in the burnt dormitory succumbed to severe burns from the inferno.
“We have been told she’s gone. It’s only a matter of formalities in Nairobi before they give us the body,” a family source said.
Kenyan authorities are however, still carrying out DNA tests to ascertain the identities of the victims since all 8 dead students were burned beyond recognition.
The school caught fire at around 1:30am on Saturday as many Kenyans were still consumed by the Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term victory as the president of the East Africa’s largest economy.
10 injured students were rushed to Nairobi Women Hospital while records from Kenyan Red Cross personnel who swiftly responded to the incident, show that other 10 students are missing.
Uhuru sent his condolence message and asked the responsible authorities to conduct investigations into the incident.
