The Electoral Commission has finally registered Gen Mugisha Muntu’s newly formed Political Party, the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
The EC, after months of verification, today Tuesday, formally cleared the establishment of the Party under the former FDC President.
Muntu quit the FDC late last year and unveiled the New Formation, a platform through which the ANT was formed.
The New Formation Convener and former FDC Secretary General, Mrs Alice Alaso announced that with the EC Clearance, nearly everything was set for the official launch of the new party.
“The next phase is the gazetting of the same, which we expect will be done in the next few weeks,” Alaso said in a statement.
“With this clearance, we are now in position to make arrangements for the official launch. The date, venue and time for the official launch will be communicated soon.”
The EC process according to its spokesman Jotham Taremwa, involves clearing the party’s name, its colours and symbols as well as verification of signatures of the people endorsing its registration.
The law requires a new party seeking registration to get a minimum of 50 signatures of eligible voters from at least three thirds of all the districts in the country.
Mrs Alaso, however, did not reveal the colors and symbol of the new party, which might be at the official launch.
