A group of NRM flag bearers in Rubanda district have come out accusing Hon Henry Ariganyira Musasizi, the Rubanda County East MP of “sitting” on their money which was sent from the party secretariat to facilitate their campaigns.
The flag bearers claim that Hon Musasizi ordered the district NRM administrator, one Christmas Dezi not to give them their share of the campaign money, simply because they did not support him in the September party primaries.
Hon Musasizi is the NRM district Chairman for Rubanda.
NRM through its Secretariat this month released Shs 60 billion to be distributed to its candidates at different political levels, to facilitate procurement of campaign logistics and materials.
The money rangers from Shs 40million for each directly elected MP candidate to Shs 100,000 for local councilor contestants.
The affected candidates told ChimpReports that recently, Hon Musasizi invited the party candidates at Volcano Hotel in Rubanda town to give them the money.
During the meeting, they say, Musasizi singled out the candidates who did not support him during the primaries and told them to leave the room because they were not to receive any money.
The MP who claimed to have the backing of the party secretariat, reportedly told the candidates that those who supported his rival, Kenneth Jogoo Baryabarema, (now and independent candidate) were not qualified to get funding from the party.
He then ordered the Administrator Dezi Christmas, to read the names of those not to get the money. Christmas read, Diaz Drakes Owoyesigyire, the councilor representing Hamuhambo town council, Aggrey Bandebaho, the Hamuhambo town council LC 3 chairman, and Windom Kahima Niwamanya, the Muyanje parish councilor in Bubare sub-county.
The MP reportedly told the three that they had supported and continued to support independent candidate Biryabarema and that if they wanted the NRM money, they would have to renounce him or leave the room.
Speaking to ChimpReports after the meeting, Owoyesigyire wondered how Musasizi could turn against his party members, yet he himself supported an independent candidate in 2016 and was not harassed.
“It was our MP Musasizi who taught us that you can support an independent candidate when in the 2016 Rubanda LCV elections he supported Stephen Kasyaba an independent, against the party candidate Kenneth Jogo Biryabareema and when President Museveni tried to intervene at a rally in Bubaare, he defied him,” said Owoyesigyire.
The three candidates further revealed that they tasked Musasizi and Christmas to show them a copy of the letter which the MP claimed was from the Secretary General Justine Lumumba ordering him not to give money to supporters of independents; but that he couldn’t show it to them.
When contacted, Rodgers Mulindwa the NRM spokesperson told our reporter that facilitation for flag bearers on different levels should be disbursed directly to their banks accounts by the constituency NRM flag bearer.
He promised to talk to the aggrieved flag bearers who have not received their facilitation.
Musasizi, who is running for the third term is facing stiff competition from Biryabarema, the Incumbent Rubanda district LC5 chairman. Biryabarema decided to run as an independent accusing Musasizi of conniving with the Rubanda District NRM registrar, Aggrey Monday, Party administrator, Dezi Christmas and Gaudioza Kabondo, an official from the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters to steal his victory in the primaries.
