Full List: Government Agencies Awarded For e-Services

Several Government agencies were Thursday night awarded for improving service delivery using their online platforms in the inaugural annual e-Government awards.

This was during a glamorous  award dinner held at Speke Resort Munyonyo, which was graced by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Frank Tumwebaze, State Minister for Finance in Charge of Investment, Evelyn Anite among other government officials.

The Annual awards are organized by the National Information and Technology Agency (NITA) under the theme, ” “Bold Digital Government: Unlocking Service Delivery” to recognize government agencies that have made efforts to improve service delivery through digitalization but also encourage those that are still lagging behind to come on board

According to the Executive Director NITA Uganda James Saaka, the awards were put in place to give exposure to the public on the many effective e- government systems that have been put in place to improve efficiency in service delivery

‘We realized that some agencies were moving so fast and we wanted all government agencies to move at the same pace hence creating these awards. Our target is to connect over 150 government agencies to an online system. We have pushed government agencies to have websites. We have developed websites for them, given them guidelines for security.

Speaking at the Award Ceremony, Prime Minister Rugunda applauded NITA for its efforts in encouraging and guiding government agencies to focus on digitization of their services, adding that it will go a long way in eliminating corruption in improving government efficiency in delivering services to the public.

‘There have been deliberate efforts by this government through NITA under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance to increase internet penetration and reduce the cost of internet. This will enable most Ugandans to access the digital systems that have been put in place by different government agencies hence achieving our main agenda of ease access to services by every Ugandan’ the Prime Minister said

ICT Minister, Hon Tumwebaze while speaking at the same event said digitizing systems and services will go a long way in reducing corruption as well as reducing on wastage of public resources
