The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) will extend a financial package of Four Million Uganda Shillings (Shs 4,000,000) to each member of the Uganda Hippos team that recently lifted the U-20 CECAFA Challenge Cup.
The announcement which was made on Friday at Jevine Hotel- Rubaga, follows Uganda’s 3-1 win over Tanzania on Wednesday that saw the team lift the title and qualify for the 2021 Total AFCON Finals to be hosted by Mauritania.
The brief ceremony was attended by FUFA 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha, FUFA 2nd Vice President Darius Mugoye, Executive Committee Member Hamid Juma, FUFA CEO Edgar Watson and FUFA Deputy CEO- Football Decolas Kiiza.
Prior to the final duel, FUFA president Eng Moses Magogo had told them that each person would get USD 700 and USD 300 for qualifying and winning the cup respectively which in the local currency, would total up to Shs 3.7M but FUFA instead rounded off the figure to make it Shs 4M.
Magogo also added that the players and officials will also get their camp allowances on top of the winning package for the period they were away from home.
“We thank the Almighty for the gift of talents in the team that have enabled us to qualify for the first time to play in the AFCON U20 Finals. We need to develop you as complete footballers. Players should be spiritually strong and fit,” Magogo stated.
He added, “I am proud of having watched the game. I liked the hunger and desire to win shown by the players in every game. It was a strong fight and we are proud of the display from the players. FUFA will give Shs 4M to each member of the contingent’ said FUFA President.”
According to the CAF Executive Committee member, the next task is about preparing the team to win the AFCON U20 Finals and not just qualifying as they target preparing the players by winning at Continental level and qualifying for the world cup.
The Final U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament will be played in Mauritania in late February 2021.
