FUFA DRUM: Leku’s Late Goal Spurs West Nile Past Tooro

Tooro 0-1 West Nile

Buhinga Stadium, Fort Portal

A late goal from striker Alfred Leku was enough for West Nile to edge past Tooro in their own backyard in one of the three FUFA DRUM games played on Sunday.

Leku netted the lone goal to secure maximum points for West Nile in the 1-0 victory against Tooro province at Buhinga stadium in Fort Portal.

The powerful forward who plies his trade at Express FC in the Uganda Premier League started on bench but was introduced just ten minutes into the game when Villa Oromchan got injured.

The game was watched by cultural leader of Tooro Kingdom His Highness Omukama Oyo Kabamba Iguru. Also in attendance was the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo.

The game kept fluctuating with either side getting a good share of possession but it was until the 85th minute when Leku produced the deciding moment.

Victory means West Nile maintain their grip at the top in group D now on eight points followed by Ankoke who defeated Karamoja 3-1 on seven points.

Tooro are third on four points same as Karamoja who sit bottom of the group due to an inferior goal difference.

The top two teams in each of the four groups will advance to the quarterfinals with the final expected to take place in Kasese in October.
