FUFA Drum: Buganda starts title defence with win over Lango

Buganda Province launched their FUFA Drum defence with a hard-fought 1-0 over Lango province on Saturday as the second edition kicked off in Mukono.

The visitors, travelled over five hours from Lira, thronged the venue at the Bishop SS grounds in numbers and almost overwhelmed the hosts but will feel hard done by the result.

Onduparaka FC winger Vianne Sekajugo connected well with URA duo of Saidi Kyeyune and Shafiq Kagimu before stinging the ball past Franco Oringa for the winner in the 6th minute.

Buganda head coach and reigning best coach of the competition, was happy with the start especially cracking it infront of their own fans.

“We wanted to start well especially that we were at home,” the soft-spoken tactician remarked.

“As defending champions, we expect a very tough challenge this season and so we needed to start well at home,” he added.

Lango’s new head coach David Obua, a former Uganda Cranes striker, partly blamed the loss on little time for preparations and his blunt attack.

“We had only four days of training and some of the players arrived a bit late. Nevertheless, we tried to play and should have won but we wasted some chances.”

Buganda’s Joel Mutakubwa walked home with the man of match gong as well as the hundred thousand shillings cash prize.

The other games continue on sunday from seven different venues.
