FUFA Big League: Lira United, Paidha Clash marred with controversies

The game between Lira United and Paidha Black Angels in the FUFA Big League at Hunters ground in Lira town took twists ending in irregular circumstances amidst violence.

With Paidha in quest for promotion to the Uganda Premier League while on the other hand Lira United grounded in the relegation zone,  the thinking would be the game would be a battle on the pitch for either side.

However, the game seemed to have started even before kickoff with so many incidents prior to the actual game.

Allan Kabonge the Paidha Black Angel coach who was returning  to Lira for the first time since leaving Lira United seemed to be the cause of the saga.

Upon reaching  Lira town, Kabonge was detained with Lira United officials indicating the coach owes the club money for breach of contract.

The amount in question remains unclear but reports from Paidha indicate Kabonge was given money to settle Lira United but he failed to do so.

This delayed the kickoff of the game with Paidha claiming a club official who had the players licenses had been thrown out of the stadium. The game eventually started at 5:57pm.

The home side also hiked entrance fees for the visiting fans from five thousand shillings to fifty thousand shillings.

Visiting fans had to pay 50,000/=

The game eventually ended with 70 minutes played in a two all draw with Lira United scoring from a penalty.

It required fans near the goal area and the centre referee to switch on their phone lights as the kick from the spot was taken.

The result will now await a decision by FUFA to know whether the result stands or the game is replayed.

Paidha currently occupy second posititon in Elgon group with 32 points one behind leaders Ndejje University.
