Government has confirmed that this Friday February 16th will be a public holiday as the country commemorates the Bishop Janani Luwum Day.
Luwum was murdered by high handed President Iddi Amin in February 1977, for speaking ill of his government.
He is remembered as one of the most influential church leaders not just in Uganda but the African continent.
Government earlier had hesitated to declare this year’s commemoration day a public holiday.

But in a communique by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Service Salome Nyamungu, it was announced as such.
The main celebrations will be held in Mucwini in Kitgum district, the ancestral home of Bishop Luwum.
