Former Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Frank Mwesigwa has rubbished social media claims that he was in hiding.
“I am neither in hiding nor under any arrest as rumoured on social media platforms…” said Mwesigwa.
The Tourism Police Commander’s remarks come against the backdrop of increased arrests of his colleagues including ex police chief Gen Kale Kayihura.
The military recently arrested former Police Flying Squad commander Herbert Muhangi and Kampala South Regional Police Commander Siraje Bakaleke.
The former Crime Intelligence chief Lt Col Atwooki Ndahura was also arrested by the military.
These mass arrests created an impression that Mwesigwa was not safe.
In fact, some reports suggested that the military was searching for Mwesigwa and that he was in hiding.
Mwesigwa took over Kampala police from Assistant Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba in July, 2016.
He was born on April 2, 1980 in Kazo District before shifting to Kiruhuura District.
Mwesigwa attended Kashwa primary school in Kiruhura district, Mbarara High School and Makerere University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences.
A son of Rtd Rev Canon Patrick Bwerere, Mwesigwa boasts a master’s degree in peace studies and conflict transformation from a university in Rwanda.
He left private sector to join police in 2007. His first deployment was in Counter Terrorism after training in military skills at Kabalye Police Training School.
