English football icon Robbie Fowler visited the Brian Umony foundation on Sunday morning in a football clinic held at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
The event was part of Fowler’s three day visit in Uganda as scheduled and sponsored by Barclays Bank of Uganda, a member of Absa group limited.
The sixth all-time record Premier league goal scorer was received by Brian Umony and Peter Tabu (CEO, Brian Umony foundation) on arrival at the football clinic.
He took the kids through simple football drills under a hot sunny environment at the Lugogo artificial turf.
In his remarks to the kids shortly after, he said: “You need to show a lot of dedication and the right attitude, I got where I am through hard work.”
“Don’t strive to be the next Fowler, be the face of you. If u get the right attitude, you can go far. And the will to drive the ambition, you can go whenever u want.”
The clinic comprised mainly of kids from Mulimira Zone in Kamwokya. “It’s a great honour and inspiration to share a pitch with a football legend, and this is to me, a dream come true,” noted one of the kids after training.
Umony, commented: “It’s massive for us as a foundation to have this opportunity to associate with Folwer. I believe that this is a sign to our kids that their future is bright.”
Umony thanked Barclays Bank Uganda for the wonderful opportunity and highlighted their role to promote local football and sports in general.
