Four cattle rustlers from Turkana in Kenya were on Tuesday shot dead in a fire exchange with UPDF soldiers in Kaabong district, Karamoja sub region.
The 3rd Division army spokesperson, Major Peter Mugisa, said they had deployed after receiving intelligence information that a number of Turkana armed warriors had crossed to Uganda to raid animals from Kamion Sub County.
“They came and many of them were armed, they didn’t know that UPDF had got information about their plan so they got us prepared, we fought and killed four of them on spot,” he said.
He said the warriors failed to raid animals adding that one gun was recovered from those who were killed although other guns went with those who got injured.
Major Mugisa said many of the raiders suffered serious injuries but managed to run back across the border. He added that the army has deployed heavily to counter the return of cattle rustling in the area.
He said the army last week arrested three warriors who have been masterminding the raids in the region.
The resurrecting insecurity in Karamoja has created panic among the general public in the region with members of parliament in Karamoja calling for urgent government intervention to address the insecurity in the region.
