Former Works Minister Byandala Arrested

Former Works and Transport Minister, Hon Abraham Byandala has been arrested, Chimp Corps report.

Byandala and several others by publication time were appearing before the the Anti Corruption in Court in Kololo for hearing of cases connected to influence peddling and corruption at Uganda National Roads Authority.

He is being charged with abuse of office during the procurement for a contractor for the construction of the Mukono-Katosi road.

Byandala who was released in the recent cabinet reshuffle and replaced by his junior Hon Eng John Byabagambi, information pills is the face of the multibillion fraud scandal in which a quack US based company Eutaw was handed the road contract without due diligence.

“By letter dated 14th November 2013 and in abuse of authority of his office and Minister of Works, Byandala arbitrarily directed the immediate signing of a contract between UNRA and Eutaw Construction Company for the construction of the Mukono Katosi road before due diligence was concluded…,” read part of the charge sheet seen by Chimpreports.

When busted as a “Briefcase” company, the Inspectorate of Government quickly halted the project and as a number officials behind the shoddy deal in the ministry and UNRA came in the limelight.

Police deputy spokesperson Polly Namaye told us the arrest was conducted by IGG Authorities which are investigating the fraud alongside Police’s SIU.

The development comes is the middle of an ongoing committee probe in the works of UNRA that is hoped to launch a complete overhaul of the Authority under the new stewardship of Mrs Allen Kagina.
