Former MP Kantinti Sent to Luzira Over Bank Loan

Former Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Apollo Kantinti has been committed by the Kampala High Court to Luzira Prison over failure to service his three-year loan.

The former MP is to spend six months in Luzira or until he clears all 260million that he owes.

Kantinti, who in a 2017 by-election lost his parliamentary seat to Hon Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), is said to have failed to clear the loan he took from Standard Chartered Bank in June 2016.

Kantinti allegedly borrowed Shs 300million from the bank which he was supposed to pay back in 50 instalments over a period of four years, with a 25% interest.

In 2017 however, he started defaulting on his monthly payments which compelled the bank to rush to court.

In May this year, High Court Deputy registrar in charge of executions Flavia Nabakooba, issued a warrant of arrest for the former MP.

Last week on June 27th he was arrested and brought to court, which committed him to jail.

“You are hereby required to take and receive the said Apollo Kantinti into prison and keep him imprisoned for a period of six months or until the said judgement creditors sooner be fully satisfied” the court registrar directed Luzira Prison
