Two forest patrol workers were last weekend attacked and hacked in Mabira forest by criminals who were cutting trees illegally.
The injured are Geoffrey Kairo and Julius Tumusime.
Mr Kairo is said to be in a worrying condition at Mulango Hospital, while his colleague Tumusime is also receiving treatment at Jinja Hospital.
According to the National Forest Authority, the two are receiving all the medical care they need and the Uganda police has sent a task force to look for the culprits.
The two officers were attached to Kangulumira NFA Station where illegal tree cutting is said to be severe.
According to NFA, the officers had already apprehended one of the criminals when his colleagues came and rescued him from the station.
Mabira forest is one of Uganda’s protected forests that is steadily being lost to illegal logging.
According to Tom Rukundo Ndamira, the Director Natural Forest Management at NFA, the authority has asked the UPDF and police to help they lack enough man power.
