Football Coaches Give Misagga Ultimatum to Apologize

Former Italian coach Giovanni Trappatoni once said that ‘football coaches are like fish, they can only live in water.’  The statement meant that coaches only have their jobs safe when their teams get good results.

When the results were not coming at Nyamityobora Football Club, it was evident that head coach James Odoch was living on borrowed time.

The last nail came on Sunday when the Banyakare were outwitted 6-1 away to KCCA FC at StarTimes stadium. This meant the club has won just once since the start of the season, drawing once and losing the other six games and currently in the drop zone.

Immediately after the game, club president Ben Immanuel Misagga took to his Twitter account to confirm Odoch’s sacking.

Whereas they don’t contest his sacking, local football coaches are unhappy about the manner in which Misagga conducted himself.

Under their umbrella body, Uganda Football Coaches Association (UFCA), the coaches have asked Misagga to make  public apology to Odoch for his foul language.

In a letter dated, 26th November 2018, UFCA through their CEO, Badru Kaddu Mukasa who is also the assistant coach at KCCA FC have published a statement on the matter.

” Following the results from the match between KCCA FC and Nyamityobora FC on Sunday, 25th November 2018. Coach James Odoch a registered member of Uganda Football Coaches Association was sacked by the management of Nyamityobora FC,” the statement starts.

“We understand, the management of the club has the rights to employ and sack but our surprise is the way the club chairman of Nyamityobora FC went ahead to post shaming an degrading tweets on social media which are not hurting our brother but our profession as well.” It reads further.

In one of his tweets, Misagga indicated Odoch is not fit enough to coach a team like Nyamityobora FC.

” Odoch cannot march Nyamityobora FC technical works, within three days we shall give Nyamityobora FC another person who can measure to the challenge. I don’t groom coaches, Nyamityobora FC is not a learning process for coaching, ” wrote Misagga.

It is upon such background that UFCA has given the outspoken administrator an ultimatum of 48 hour ultimatum to apologize.

” It is upon this background therefore that we request Eng. Ben Misagga, the President of Nyamityobora FC to come out officially and apologize to Uganda Football Coached Association, players, fans, the general public and the entire football fraternity at large for his unbecoming behaviour. This communication must be done in the next 48 hours and failure to do, we shall ban coaches football coaches in Uganda, the region and internationally to trade with Nyamityobora FC.”

Misagga has over time been sacking coaches even at the time he was at SC Villa. It should be remembered that in 2014, he sacked Steven Bogere just three games into the season.
