FIBA World Cup Qualifiers: Uganda, Rwanda in Decisive Tie

Sunday, July 1
Uganda Vs Rwanda, 8 PM
Mali Vs Nigeria, 10:30 PM

Uganda National Basketball team the Silverbacks are in a total conundrum – the Silverbacks need a victory over Rwanda to progress to the second round of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

Uganda and Rwanda face off at Lagos National Stadium with the victory progress to the next level. Already qualified Mali and Nigeria play later at 10:30 PM, both group B ties.

Uganda are yet to win a game in this window – The team has suffered losses against Nigeria on Friday before Mali on Saturday, 109-66 and 80-95 in that order.

“Just like on Friday, we gave away too many overs and it’s really hard to win a basketball game if you lose the ball more than you share it,” Explained Silverbacks Coach George Galanopoulos after the loss to Mali.

He added: “We are going to keep fighting, we are going to prepare well so as we take care of the business. We will go out for a battle, we will fight to our best, and the rest will take care of its self.”

Nigeria (5-0) are still on top with 10 points, Mali (2-3) comes in second with 7 points, Rwanda and Uganda follows with 7 and 6 points respectively.

The victory for the Silverbacks will see the team go through with a better point difference.
