The Lubaga South Parliamentary aspirant, on Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket holder, Habib Buwembo on Tuesday this week petitioned the Electoral Commission, asking for a complete file of the nomination of President Yoweri Museveni.
Buwembo says he seeks to know if Museveni is a registered voter since he changed his name two weeks to the nominations,
“As a registered voter, vide, CM82101106615C and in exercise of my civic duty under Section 9(b) of the Presidential Elections Act, 2005, I request to inspect the presidential papers that were presented by Mr. Tibuhaburwa Yoweri Kaguta Museveni” reads part of the petition.
Buwembo says he intends to use this information to “lodge a complaint of fraud and forgery against the president.”
“Given the fact that they just completed nominations, I am sure the EC will avail the file to me since they are readily available,” he said adding
“We have doubt on whether Mr. Museveni paid the Shs20m nomination fee because we got rumors that he just orders and it is done,” he said.
Recently, one of the NUP lawyers Muwada Nkunyinji wrote to the Commission asking for the same documents but the EC declined offering them
On November 2, president Museveni was nominated for the sixth term seeking for Uganda’s presidency.
Commenting on the received petition, Paul Bukenya, the spokesperson of the Electoral commission said that the Commission will go through the petition and decide on the way forward.
“The letter has been addressed specifically to our Chairperson and as I am speaking, it is at his desk and he will go through it and decide on the way forward, which we shall communicate,” he said.
