FDC’s Amuriat Nominated Barefooted

The opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party presidential flag bearer Patrick Amuriat Oboi has been duly nominated by the Electoral Commission to run for president.

EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama issued him guidelines to follow after nominating him.

I, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon being the Returning Officer for nomination of presidential candidates, therefore declare Amuriat Oboi Patrick a duly nominated candidate in respect of the presidential elections 2021 having fulfilled the nomination requirements under the Presidential Elections Act 2005 as amended,” said Byabakama while nominating Amuriat.

As a duly nominated candidate, Amuriat is required to appoint a campaign agent who will coordinate his campaigns, meetings and media programs.

He will have to avail the Electoral Commission with the schedule of his campaign meetings on media, programs as soon as practicable “to facilitate the smooth harmonization of candidate campaign promises program countywide.”

Amuriat was also told by EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Electoral Commission in compliance of a harmonized campaign program and adhere to the campaign guidelines including the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

He was also tasked to refrain his supporters from gathering or making processions.

“We also wish to remind the aspiring candidate that one of guidelines issued by the Commission is that processions along public roads are prohibited,” said Byabakama.
