FDC’s Deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija told Chimpreports that Besigye’s trip this time will be as short as one week, which should have no effect on his Treason case in which he is required to report in court regularly as part of his bail conditions.
“He has no court this week, there shouldn’t be problems with the case,” Kaija told us.
Besigye himself described his trip to the US as a relief from his difficult life in Uganda.
He tweeted shortly before taking off from Amsterdam last night, “…I’ll have a week’s break from harassment by rogue State institutions. Have a great week tweeps!”
During Besigye’s previous trip in the US and the UK that lasted just over one month, he met with and addressed FDC members and leaders there, urging them to maintain support on the party back home.
According to Mr Kaija, Col Besigye keeps his party fully informed about his works abroad.
“We know what he is doing there and he addresses us, not just as a party member but also our founding father, our flag bearer and mobilizer (in Rukungiri district),” he said.
