Hundreds of mourners yesterday gathered at opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party headquarters in Najjanankumbi to pay their last respects to the one of the party’s strong pillars Absolome Bwanika Bbale.
Bbale succumbed to cancer on Monday this week at Nakasero hospital.
The party’s founding father and a four-time presidential candidate Col Dr Kiiza Besigye described Bbale as one who spent most of his life fighting for Justice.
“God has been so kind to us to give us Owek. Bwanika Bbale. Bwanika spent most of his life as a servant of the people. His struggle has been a struggle for Justice. He has done everything to make sure change we have always wanted happens”
“He deserves praises of our party and people of Uganda who aspire to get Justice for this country. Unfortunately, he has not lived to see the fruits he fought for,” said Besigye
Besigye also said that the deceased’s sacrifice was at the expense of his family and appreciated the family for allowing him to do FDC work.
He added that FDC will make sure the struggle comes to and end and added that the late will be remembered as a freedom fighter of this country.
The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago said that the country will miss Bwanika especially those in the struggle to liberate this country
Lukwago appreciated the efforts of the late to change the mindset of people of Kapeeka Luweero district to join FDC.
“At this time we need people as individuals. People’s struggle is not like a guerilla so everyone matters. Bbale will so much be missed,” he added.
The Leader of opposition in Parliament Betty Aol Acan encouraged the grieved family to pray in order to gain strength.
“It is prayer that will make you strong”
FDC deputy Secretary General Harold Kaija revealed that the late Bwanika Bbale was paying FDC office rent in Luweero using his own money.
He added that the party was not paying him any salary.
“He has left at the time when the party needed him the most,” Kaijja added
Until his death, Bwanika was serving as FDC party chairman for Luweero district.
Bwanika was a former member of Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko (parliament) representing Bulemeezi county.
He joined Col Dr Kiiza Besigye in 2000 to start Reform Agenda that later gave birth to FDC.
Owek Absolome Bwanika Bbale was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kalongomiti village, Kasana Town council in Luweero district today Thursday.
