Maroons football club confirmed their return to the Azam Uganda Premier in style with a fantastic performance on Tuesday.

The prison warders were in scintillating moods easing past minnows Kyambogo United 3-1 in the game played at the Luzira prisons ground.

Coming into the game needing just a point, information pills Maroons took no chances but went for maximum points with Patrick Kaddu, Pius Obuya and an own goal before Kyambogo pulled one back midway through the game.

Fufa Big leading goal scorer, Patrick Kaddu gave Maroons a bright start converting a penalty as early as the 7th minute to take his tally to 16 goals this season.

Lanky midfielder Pius Obuya doubled the lead for Maroons after recess before an own goal in the 73rd minute sealed it for the two time league champions.

With a game to end the regular season (away against Busia Fisheries) Maroons top Elgon group with 45 points, six above second placed Ndejje University.

Asaph Mwebaze, the Maroons head coach indicated the return to the top tier league has been out of commitment and hard work.


“It has been a long journey focus to return. There has been a lot of hard work and commitment from the players, coaches, administration and fans,” he said.

Maroons now join Masavu FC from Rwenzori group that have confirmed promotion to the Uganda premier league.
