Family Members Injured by Grenade in Kitgum

Three people from one family are currently nursing serious injuries in Kitgum general hospital after a suspected grenade exploded and injured them.

The injured are two minors aged 3 and 5 and their mother Christine Akanyo, all residents of Matidi sub-county in Kitgum district.

The two children reportedly picked the unexploded grenade from an unknown place, brought it home and started hitting it in a bid to open it.

The grenade exploded injuring both children and their mother.

Police spokesman in Aswa region Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed this development saying that Police in Kitgum Matidi rushed to the scene, picked the victims and rushed them to Kitgum Matidi HCIII and they were later referred to Kitgum General Hospital.

The case is registered under SD REF: 08/31/05/2020

Okema appealed to the public to be careful since there are still unexploded ordinances that were left during the 20-year Lord’s resistance army insurgency.

Mr. Kenneth Okettayot, the Kitgum Matidi LC3 chairman in a telephone interview said they have been sensitizing the Public and their Children to avoid playing with any suspicious objects.
