Rez Life 63-64 Falcons (OverTime)
StarTimes Falcons have earned promotion back to the National Basketball League.
The side overcame Rez Life Saints with a 63-64 overtime victory in a deciding game three of the of the men’s division one semifinals.
The result, sees Falcons reach the lower league finals where they will face winner between Kampala University and Old Tymers. Both finalists of the lower division earn promotion to the NBL.
Falcons who takes the series 2-1, had lost game one 51-74 before leveling the series 55-51 in game two.
The six time record NBL leaders trailed in the first half 20-17. Rez Life continued with their dominance as they won the third quarter 16-13 to extend their lead to six points going into the last ten minutes, 36-30.
It was in the last quarter where Falcons stepped up their A game to propel the side to an 18-24 win, a result that was enough to force Overtime, 54-54.
Falcons, coached by John Mapesa Omindi, sealed business as they edged the five overtime minutes 9-10 to win 63-64.
Francis Karoro scored 21 points, Dickson Asiku and Saidi Khamis added 13 points each for the promoted side.
Young star Fayeed Bbale scored a game high 29 points and Deng Adija added 16 points for the beaten side.
Falcons had finished sixth in the regular season with eight wins, to earn a playoff spot.
The side swept Gulu Hawks 2-0 in the quarterfinals, won 66-56 and 59-55 in game one and two respectively.
