Express FC Captain Banned for Attacking Referees


Express Football Club captain Michael Birungi has been slapped a four match ban on grounds that he physically attacked match officials as his club fell to Tooro United FC.

The FUFA Competitions Disciplinary panel found the midfielder guilty of misconduct hence issuing the suspension.

” Case No 0011/UPL/2019, Express FC captain Shirt No 11, Birungi Michael attacked the match officials at the centre of the field of play immediately after the game, Tooro United FC vs Express FC on 29/01/2019 at Buhinga stadium, Fort Portal. Actions of the Express FC captain tantamount to breach of the FUFA Competition rules.

Birungi and Express FC protested a late penalty they conceded against Tooro United FC. Simon Sserunkuma eventually stepped up to convert the resultant penalty.

” Express FC captain Birungi Michael is suspended for four(4) official FUFA competitions match for attacking match officials.” The statement confirms.

The match officials that took charge of the game included; Alex Muhabi(centre referee), Solomon Lusambya and Emmy Kakooza as first and second assistant respectively while Robert Donney was the fourth official.

The game that Birungi will miss include BUL FC, Police FC(Uganda Cup), Nyamityobora FC and Maroons FC.
