Police in Entebbe is investigating a case of Rush and Neglect that was reported at Abaita Ababiri Police station in which an eight-month-old baby girl was abandoned in a house where she succumbed to malnutrition.

According to the Deputy Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police Luke Owoyesiyire, it is alleged that on Tuesday at around 7 pm, locals in Abaita Ababiri found a lifeless female juvenile abandoned in a house.

“The locals informed the police and the body of the deceased, identified as Nakiwala Princess, eight months old, was collected and taken to the City Mortuary Mulago,” Owoyesigire said.

It is alleged that the parents of the child, identified as Kimbowa, her father and mother Kawambo Margaret, had abandoned her and at the time she was found, she had died due to severe malnutrition.

“The locals confirmed that the two parents are drunkards and have been leaving the child alone in the house without proper feeding which led to her death,” he said.

Owoyesigire further revealed that police managed to arrest the mother, Kawambo Margaret.

“We have recorded her statement and we have charged her with neglect. Investigations are still ongoing,” he said.

According to section 227 of The penal Code Act, any person, who, by any rush or negligent act not amounting to manslaughter, causes the death of another person, is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years or to a fine not exceeding seventy thousand shillings or to both such imprisonment and fine.
