Uganda Civil Aviation Authority has acquired a one of a kind multi-purpose Rigid Haull Inflated marine boat.
The two in one purpose boat will aid in life-saving emergencies on the lake as well as facilitate putting out fires when need arises.
Speaking to ChimpReports, Mr Vianney Luggya, the Manager Public Affairs at UCAA said the boat is one of a kind with the capacity not only to stop a fire but also save lives in case of a plain accident on the lake.
“This is a special multi-purpose rescue boat with capacity to stop a fire and also save lives in the unfortunate event of a plane accident on the lake,” said Luggya.
ChimpReports understands that the Shs 1.4 billion Rigid Haull Inflated Fire-fighting Marine boat is aimed at enhancing aviation safety in the area of search and rescue on lake Victoria.
Luggya, however, revealed that the Shs 1.4 billion total cost was not only used for the asset’s purchase, but also included training of staff, among other expenses.
Taking a look at inside this magnificent Rigid Haull Inflated marine boat, it is equipped with a life-saving raft, foam filled pontoon, an echo sounder, GPS and radar.
The fire-fighting marine boat has capacity to rescue 50 passengers in case of an accident on the lake. It has a 500 horse power with a 50 knot speed, making it one of the fastest boats in the country.
As a matter of fact, Entebbe International Airport previously didn’t have such flexible and sophisticated equipment that could save lives, but also fight-fire (within 9.5 metres) in the event that an aircraft on fire ditches in the lake.
Mr. Luggya further noted that the combination of the new boat with the other 3 (Rescue 1, 2 and Catamaran boats) previously acquired by UCAA can rescue a total of 450 passengers in the unfortunate event of a disaster.
