Electrician Remanded for Stealing Meters

Buganda road grade one Magistrate Marion Mangeni has charged and remanded a 29-year-old electrician for stealing and tampering with electrical installations in various parts of Kampala.

Charles Sempiira is charged with four counts of theft, 6 counts of tempering with electrical installations and two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.

He denied all charges and applied to be released on bail, presenting in court two sureties.

The sureties however, failed to present original copies of their identification documents and as such the Magistrate adjourned the matter to 25th September to allow them organize themselves

The suspect was remanded to Luzira Prison until then.

Prosecution contends that Sempiira with others still at large in areas of Makerere, Wandegeya, Kawempe, Makindye and Nakuwadde in Wakiso district on 19th June 2019 and 22nd June 2019 stole electrical meters valued at a total 790,000 shillings

Its further alleged that Sempiira and others still at large on the same dates in the areas of Wakiso and Kampala district without authorization from UMEME tampered with Electrical installations thereby damaging them.
