Electoral Commission Closes National Voters’ Register Display

The Electoral commission has announced that the display of the National Voters’ Register ends on Tuesday 10th March 2020.

The E. C chairperson, Simon Mugenyi Byabakama told the Journalists at their offices in Kampala that today would be the last day of people checking the Voters’ Register at all polling stations countrywide.

“The purpose of the above display exercise was to enable voters to check for the correctness of their particulars on the Voters’ Register and to raise objections to the inclusion and/or removal of a voter’s particulars from the Register,” said Byabakama.

Byamukama strongly noted that there would be no extension of the display exercise.

The Display exercise commenced on Wednesday 19th February 2020  running at all the 34,344 polling stations in the country, allowing voters to check and make necessary corrections to their voting details before the 2020/2021 General Elections.

The Commission notes that the names of people who are recommended for deletion (those who died, are under 18 or appear more than once) will now be forwarded to the parish Headquarters for appropriate action to be taken.

“Following the conclusion of the Display, the Commission shall now proceed to display the lists of all persons recommended for deletion or inclusion by the Tribunal from the National Voters’ Register, for a period of ten (10) days, that is, from 11th to 20th March 2020 at each respective Parish/Ward Headquarter,” said Byabakama.

The magistrate appointed Parish/Ward Tribunal works, in consultation with political parties makes the final decision concerning the recommendations for inclusion, deletion, or correction made by the public from the Display Exercise to the respective district Returning Officers.
