ELECTIONS: NRM Wins Major Seats in Rubanda

NRM has won all the two seats of Woman Member of Parliament and LC5 in the newly created Rubanda district.

Kenneth Jogo Biryabarema (NRM) won the LCV seat polling 32, cialis 40mg 899 votes while Stephen Ampaire Kasyaba an Independent candidate came second with 20, mind 845  votes.

FDC’s Joseph Ruhangariyo came third with 1, 172 votes as independent candidate Nelson Habasa trailed with 316 votes.

The Woman Member of Parliament seat was won by Prossy Akampurira Mbabazi (NRM) after beating her two challengers as she polled 32,706 votes while Hilda Kabarungi Karuhize came second with 19,486 votes. FDC’s Vastina Katushabe trailed with 3,479 votes.

Winners were declared by the Rubanda district Electoral Commission registrar Ismail Takih Atwijukire at the district headquarters in Murole in Rubanda district at around 2.20 am.

Biryabarema asked the people of Rubanda to come out and work with him so as to develop the district. He said Rubanda being a young district; it needs the support of all the people that hail from there.

Security was tight in the whole district, commanded by the Uganda police deputy director of operations John Nuwagira.    

Francis Mwijukye the Buhweju Member of Parliament said that the elections were not free and fair claiming it was marred with intimidation, bribery  by the ruling NRM .

He added that the elections being conducted were illegal since the Electoral Commission that has organized them is illegally working beyond its term of office.

Dr. Joseph Biribonwa the Electoral Commission Vice Chairperson however responded that they were appointed in 2002 so their term of office will expire in November 2016.

Generally, there was low voter turn up as well as significant bribery of the voters as two people were in the Monday morning arrested for allegedly bribing voters. The two are; Arigye Wensi a resident of Rukoro trading center, Muko Sub County and Kedress Tukasingura.
