The Ministry of Education and Sports has through Uganda Skills Development Project (USDP) contracted MFI document Solutions Limited to provide ICT equipment worth 1.2 million dollars approximately 4.7 billion shillings to support ICT upgrade at four Technical Colleges of Bukalasa, Bushenyi, Lira and Elgon, and 12 Vocational Training Institutions (VTIs) in the country.
While signing the contract at Ministry headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday, the Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Alex Kakooza said that the project is aimed at transforming the way skilling is done and produce high-quality Technical College graduates.
“The project is intended to help transform the way we do skilling in this country to have a competency-based curriculum which is determined by the industry. The industry tells us the kind of people they need so that people who leave our colleges can employ themselves or can be employed easily,” said Kakooza.
He challenged the contractors, the MFI document Solutions Limited to supply high-quality equipment.
“We expect that we shall get good quality equipment because we sometimes get challenges with the delivery of equipment especially ICT where we get equipment that malfunction shortly after it has been installed,” he added.
The MFI document Solutions Limited ICT Director Sanjay Kumar Rai assured the Ministry to deliver high-quality equipment with a warranty of between 1 and 3 years.
The equipment will include office ICT and conference equipment and their accessories for 4 Colleges and their networking Vocational Training Institutions (VTIs).
