Singer Edrisah Musuuza alias Eddy Kenzo and the Mityana Municipality legislator Francis Zaake have today joined others in reechoing the need for the youth across the country to participate in the ongoing youth committee elections.
“Today Monday August 17, 2020, is the voting day for youth village committees. I encourage the youth to come through and vote for your leaders and don’t be partisan when choosing your leaders,” Kenzo said.
On the same note, the Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament also used his platform to call upon the youth to storm different polling stations and vote for their leaders.
“I remind all youths (18-30) in Makindye East, Makindye Division, and all over the country to take charge of our destiny by participating in the village youth committee elections. Since the method of voting will be by lining up behind the candidate, please don’t forget to put on your masks, observe social distancing and carry your National IDs,” Zaake said.
Like other observers including Robert Kyagulanyi, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, the duo believes that the youth have the power to drive the leadership of their country and “that starts now.”
Today, youth across the country are voting for their village committees leaders.
Paul Bukenya, the Acting Public Relations officer of the Electoral Commission said that the Youth Council shall consist of nine members; Chairperson, vice chairperson, general secretary, publicity secretary, secretary for women youth (who shall be a female), secretary for students affairs who shall be a student, secretary for labour affairs, secretary for sports and culture, and secretary for finance.
“The village/cell youth councils shall consist of youths who reside in the village/cell and who are willing to be members of the village youth council,” he said.
