The newly elected NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, David Calvin Echodu, has promised to implement his manifesto based on truth and action to strengthen the ruling party.
In his first victory message on Thursday, Echodu, who trounced Mike Mukula, said he will ensure great service.
“Dear NRM, I wish to express my deepest gratitude for the continued trust, support, and belief in me that led to our victory yesterday,” said Echodu.
Adding: “This isn’t just a thank you. This is a declaration of commitment. A promise that as a leader, I shall strive to be great at service.”
He assured the NRM delegates that they made the best choice in electing him to the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
“To the NRM delegates who stood in line to vote. You trusted, you believed, and you centered your minds on selecting the best. And with that belief, you have handed me the mantle to lead.
“Mine is to not only recognize issues relating to the NRM party but also people-centered issues around which we shall set an agenda.”
Echodu noted that his election is just the beginning of a new chapter.
“Being elected to CEC is not an endpoint; this is just the beginning of a new chapter. So let us rise to the occasion and get to work,” he said.
“Together we are embarking on this path forward, unified under the banner of our Party to construct opportunity, construct unity, and construct an engine that runs on truth, courage, and action, not noise.”
Echodu bagged a 99.5% victory after Mukula withdrew from the race at the last hour, leaving Namutumba Woman MP Mariam Naigaga as the only competitor. Naigaga ended up with only 253 (0.5%) against Echodu’s 5,211.
