Police in Wakiso District are looking for an unidentified motor vehicle whose occupants knocked a pedestrian at Kayunga Village, Wakiso District, on Nansana-Hoima Road before picking and dumping the body in a swamp in Nansana township on Thursday at around 3 am.
According Police, the deceased pedestrian has been identified as Agnes Nalubega, 21.
According to a statement by Kampala Metropolitan Police, “Today morning, a passer-by informed the police of a body that had been dumped in a swamp in Nansana. A team of detectives visited the scene, analysed the scene and recorded statements from witnesses.”
Evidence at the scene indicated that she had died from another place but the body was moved and dumped in the swamp. The body’s hands had been tied. She also had multiple injuries, deep cuts on the back and bruises all over the body.
KMP spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango revealed that the first responders and police detectives found out that the deceased had a mobile phone and made calls to her loved ones.
It has been established that the deceased had a mental illness and was last seen walking in the middle of the road at Kayunga, where police suspect she was knocked.
A now widower, who has been identified as Ronald Batusa, 32, a resident of Nansana West II zone, Wakiso District, arrived and identified the deceased as his wife.
Batusa told police that she escaped from their home and disappeared to an unknown destination.
He was later called by a private security guard of Sabex Naluvule using the phone of the deceased to inform him about the death of his wife.
Police are using CCTV cameras along the route to collect evidence and identify the suspects. The body has been taken to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary at Mulago for postmortem.
