DR Congo Premier Condemns Komanda Massacre

Kinshasa — The Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo has strongly condemned the massacre of civilians in Komanda, Ituri Province, during a brutal overnight attack between 26 and 27 July 2025 by ADF/MTM ISCAP terrorists.

In an official communiqué issued by the Office of the Prime Minister, Judith Suminwa expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the victims and families affected by the attack, which left approximately 40 civilians dead—many hacked to death with machetes—and several others critically injured.

The horrific incident occurred in the Irumu Territory, a region frequently targeted by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an armed group affiliated with the Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP).

“This cowardly and heinous act was committed to instill terror among the population and derail the ongoing joint military operations conducted by the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) and the Ugandan army,” the statement read.

The Komanda massacre is one of the deadliest attacks in recent months and comes amid intensified efforts by Congolese and Ugandan forces to dismantle ADF strongholds in eastern DRC.

Suminwa urged the population to remain calm and not give in to fear, calling on citizens to continue trusting in the country’s defense and security forces.

“The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo firmly condemns this odious crime,” she added, reassuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to support victims and put an end to terrorist activities in the region.

Authorities have pledged a coordinated and effective response to care for the wounded and to reinforce security in the volatile eastern region, which has suffered decades of insurgency and displacement.
