DR Congo: Militia Kill 5 Primary School Pupils, 3 Teachers Missing

A yet to be identified militia group has killed 5 primary school pupils in Ngoyi town in North Kivu in Eastern DR Congo and reportedly kidnapped their three teachers.

The students and the teachers were reportedly preparing for Primary leaving exams that are scheduled in the coming days when the armed men attacked.

This comes just two days after 24 civilians were killed over two days by a notorious militia in the Beni region of eastern DR Congo, where the army has been battling armed groups since October.

Twenty bodies were discovered Monday in the villages of Mapasana and Mabuo,” Kinos Kathuho, head of the local civil society said.

“Four other bodies were found on Tuesday in the nearby village of Mbau after an attack,”

According to local NGOs 40 civilians have been killed by ADF in the last 10 days in Beni only.

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a mainly terrorist movement that originated in Uganda in the 1990s has been blamed for thousands of civilian deaths in the Beni region of North Kivu province.

The group has since October when the army launched an offensive against it, killed 794 people.

The DRC army has been fighting an array of armed groups in the east of the vast central African country for nearly three decades.

The ADF moved from neighbouring Uganda into the DRC in 1995, making the country its base of operations, although it has not carried out attacks inside Uganda for years.
